À Richmond, les citoyens augmentent leur participation à la récupération et au compostage

La Ville de Richmond est fière de constater que les Richmondaises et Richmondais sont de plus en plus nombreux à participer au recyclage et au compostage. En effet, la municipalité a été à même de constater que 2018 aura été une année marquée par la réduction du volume de déchet envoyé vers le site d’enfouissement.

Grâce à leur assiduité à la récupération et au compostage, les citoyens ont permis de détourné 554 tonnes métriques de matières du site d’enfouissement. En 2018 seulement, les citoyens ont augmenté le nombre de déchet récupéré de 5,18%. C’est donc 15,71 tonnes métriques de matière supplémentaires pour un total de 303,18 tonnes métriques de matière qui aura été récupéré l’année dernière.

L’année 2018 a aussi été une excellente année pour le compostage. En effet, la Ville a connu une augmentation de plus de 4% du volume de matière composté. Le total de ces matières pour l’année 2018 a atteint 251 tonnes, signe que les citoyens adoptent avec grande aisance cette pratique qui n’en est qu’à sa troisième année d’existence sur le territoire de la Ville.

Le Maire de Richmond, M. Bertrand Ménard, est très satisfait des chiffres de 2018 pour le compostage et la récupération.  « La Ville souhaite remercier les citoyens pour leurs efforts constants dans l’amélioration du bilan annuel de récupération et de compostage Lorsqu’on implante une nouvelle pratique comme le compostage sur le territoire nous ne sommes jamais certains des résultats. Nous pouvons aujourd’hui constater que cette implantation est un franc succès, et ce, même pour sa deuxième année. Il est clair que les citoyens veulent faire leur effort afin d’améliorer l’environnement et la Ville s’active avec l’ensemble de ses partenaires afin de répondre aux enjeux qui préoccupe les citoyens » souligne le Maire de Richmond.

L’impacts d’une augmentation de la récupération et du compostage sur le territoire est important tant au niveau de l’environnement que de l’économie.  Au chapitre écologique, une augmentation de la récupération permet à l’environnement de souffler un peu en réduisant le nombre de déchet produit et elle permet de diminuer la quantité de matière qui devra être extraite de la terre. Économiquement, cette diminution du volume de déchet donne aussi un sérieux coup de pouce aux finances de la Ville. En fait, il est important de savoir que chaque tonne de matière destiné au site d’enfouissement coûte excessivement plus cher à traiter à la municipalité que ceux destinés au compostage ou à la récupération. Cette réduction de la facture pour la Ville se reflète directement sur le compte de taxes des citoyens pour la collecte des déchets. Les citoyens gagnent donc beaucoup à réduire leur production de déchet.

Qui plus est, depuis le mois d’avril, il vous est encore plus facile de composter puisque la cueillette des bacs bruns se fera chaque semaine.
